Established 30 years ago by the Government, Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort (formerly Thiripyitsaya Sakura) is situated on the banks of the Ayeyarwaddy River. In 1995, ownership and management were taken over by the Sakura Group of Japan. Thiripyitsaya has since then undergone extensive renovation, upgrading and expansion.
Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort sprawls over 24 acres of landscaped gardens featuring flowering plants and tropical trees which have matured over the years. The Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort's architecture, which has made the most of the property's western orientation toward the river, is in the Myanmar style utilizing teak and native stone as well as Bagan brick.
Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort is considered to be Bagan's premier hotel. Aside from attractively appointed bedrooms and suites, it offers world-class cuisine and other amenities such as a Spa and the biggest outdoor pool and sundeck in the area.
