What should a Myanmar visa planning guide help you verify?
Begin with your government's current travel warning. On 13 September 2026, the United States and Australia advised not to travel to Myanmar; we recommend deferring non-essential leisure travel. For necessary document research, use official Myanmar immigration information to check your passport, purpose, eligibility, supporting documents and approval conditions. A visa does not establish safety or guarantee admission. If already there, follow current official emergency guidance and contact your government's consular service.
This guide explains how to verify an administrative process. It does not recommend a journey. Sources were checked on 13 September 2026; requirements and website arrangements can change afterward.
Why does the warning come before the application?
The U.S. State Department's Burma advisory remains Level 4: Do Not Travel and says not to travel for any reason. Australia's Myanmar advice also says not to travel. Our recommendation to defer leisure travel follows those serious warnings; administrative readiness cannot cancel them.
The UK FCDO warning uses regional categories, advising against all travel or all but essential travel to specified areas. Read the exact current scope for your nationality, rather than borrowing the least restrictive wording from someone else's government.
An unavoidable personal circumstance requires situation-specific advice from the relevant authorities. Neither this page nor a completed application can assess a route's safety. Our travel-advisory checklist handles that separate decision in more detail.
Where is the official application information?
Start from the immigration link on your government's current entry-requirements page, then check the address and the destination page. The UK government's page links to evisa.moip.gov.mm. This is more dependable than choosing a sponsored search result because its heading contains the word “official.”
During this check, older eVisa addresses ending in /home/noticetotourist and /home/faq displayed a missing-page screen. The working portal navigation led to Notice to Tourist and the current FAQ. That is an observed website change, not evidence that the visa service itself stopped.
Use the portal's navigation if a saved link fails. Do not enter passport or payment details on a substitute website merely because it loads more easily. This publication does not collect applications or determine eligibility.
Which passport and purpose are you checking?
Write a private description of the application you need to investigate: nationality, passport category, intended purpose and proposed duration. Do not start with another person's approval letter. Their document can concern a different nationality, visa category or date.
The FCDO entry-requirements page is expressly for travel from the UK on a full British citizen passport. For that audience it says to obtain a visa before travel, that a visa on arrival is unavailable, and that the passport must expire at least 6 months after arrival. Myanmar authorities set and enforce the rules; uncertainty belongs with the Myanmar embassy.
The same page warns that Myanmar does not recognize dual nationality, which can limit British consular assistance. If that affects you, obtain specific official advice rather than assuming possession of a foreign passport resolves the issue.
What belongs in a tourist-document check?
The current tourist notice lists a passport bio-data-page upload, a color photograph 4.6 cm × 3.8 cm taken within the previous 3 months, and evidence of a return ticket and accommodation. It describes a trip-plan alternative for the specified Kawthaung land-border entry and requires tourists to use registered accommodation or a boat as stated in the notice.
This is a summary of the notice, not a complete personalized checklist. Read its nationality and passport eligibility conditions, permitted-entry list and exact supporting-document wording together. A document requested for one entry arrangement should not be silently substituted into another.
Our suggested preparation record separates the requirement from the evidence:
| Field | What to record privately |
|---|---|
| Requirement | Exact current instruction and official page |
| Applies to | Your passport category, purpose and entry arrangement |
| Evidence | Which genuine document answers that instruction |
| Uncertainty | The precise question still needing an official answer |
| Checked | Date read and any later clarification |
An empty evidence field is something to resolve, not something to fill with an invented booking. If documents require spending money for a trip you should defer, stop the booking process and seek clarification rather than treating the checklist as an obligation to buy.
How do approval validity and permitted stay differ?
The tourist notice gives the approval letter 90 days from issue and the tourist stay 28 days from arrival. These are different periods with different starting points. The notice also describes tourist eVisa as single-entry; leaving and returning requires a new visa.
Keep separate fields for the letter's issue and expiry dates, proposed arrival, and the stay permitted by the actual entry documents. Do not read an approval window as permission to remain for that whole window. Where a date, counting convention or entry stamp is unclear, ask immigration rather than performing an unsupported calendar calculation.
What do the fee and processing time actually promise?
The official visa-fee table, checked on the date above, lists US$50 for Tourist Visa and US$70 for Business Visa. Those are visa categories, not interchangeable purchases. Recheck the current amount for the correct category; do not select one based only on price.
Keep the government processing fee separate from any intermediary charge or bank currency-conversion cost. A larger payment quoted elsewhere does not, by itself, establish a different official fee or faster processing. Ask the party charging it to identify what the charge buys before deciding anything.
The eVisa terms state a minimum of 3 working days, excluding weekends and official Myanmar holidays, for regular tourist and business processing. The clock begins with the acknowledgement email after submission and successful payment. “Minimum” is not an approval deadline or a guarantee.
The terms make processing fees non-refundable. Their approval letter is also not a confirmed visa letter, and they prohibit visiting restricted areas without prior permission. An approved document therefore does not settle border admission, internal access or safety.
What should you review before any payment?
The current portal FAQ describes account registration, completing the application, uploading documents, payment and receipt of an approval letter. It says information can be corrected before payment through its application-management function, but not after payment. Review names, nationality, passport number and email against the actual documents before reaching that stage.
Treat the review as a separate task from typing. Read one field at a time, then check the category and attached files. If someone helps, distinguish their assistance with reading or typing from an official decision about what you qualify for.
Our editorial recommendation is to keep a short record of unresolved questions and obtain the authority's answer before submitting. Do not make a guess look more certain by repeating it across several fields. The person processing an application cannot see an uncertainty that you removed from the record.
What if an approval contains an error or the trip changes?
The FAQ says incorrect approval-letter details require a new application; it does not offer editing of the letter. It also says approval validity dates cannot be changed. Contact the official service about your circumstances rather than altering a PDF, assuming an extension or buying another application before understanding what is required.
For an approved application, the FAQ calls for a printed approval letter at arrival. A payment acknowledgement and an approval letter serve different purposes. Keep those documents clearly named so a receipt cannot be mistaken for the entry-related document.
Which questions remain outside the visa decision?
Insurance and healthcare need separate answers. The FCDO warns that travelling against its advice could invalidate insurance. Ask the insurer about the exact circumstances and policy, and seek qualified advice if its explanation is unclear. A policy document does not guarantee a particular claim or evacuation.
The FCDO health guidance describes severe pressure on public healthcare and possible transfer abroad for serious illness or injury. Discuss individual health needs and medical-entry documentation with a qualified travel-health clinician and the relevant authorities. This article does not prescribe vaccinations, medicines or treatment.
If already in Myanmar, use your government's current emergency and consular guidance. Australia's advisory cautions that its embassy's assistance can be limited and tells Australians who remain to follow any stay-at-home or curfew orders. Do not turn a paperwork question into an instruction to move through unsafe conditions.
For future research, keep your official-source record together and revisit it when circumstances change. A deferred trip can remain deferred even when every document question has an answer. The trip-planning collection provides background reading; current authorities control the requirements and warnings.
